Essa Secondary School is a brand new school.
The Trustees of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) formally approved Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School as the name of the new secondary school in the Township of Essa (Angus) at the May 25, 2011 Board meeting. The school is scheduled to open in September.
“The name ‘Nottawasaga Pines’ represents the school’s connection to and the importance of the natural environment, specifically the Nottawasaga River that flows through the community,” explains Principal Chris Samis. “’Pines’ also reflects the importance of the logging industry to the development of the area.”
After careful consideration and consultation, the official colours of the new school will be red and white with black trim. The colours represent respect for the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces, especially given the school’s proximity to Canadian Forces Base Borden along with its importance to the local community. CFB Borden is the largest training facility in the Canadian Forces and the historic birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
